The firework display held on Marsden Cove Marina on New Year's Eve was a huge success amongst locals. Thousands of people turned up for the spectacle on land or on their boats, to watch the nightsky be lit up in all sorts of bright colours.
Preparations for the big night had been in progress for quite some time and when the big night arrived it did not disappoint. People of all ages showed up for the event to see in the New Year in style. This event was designed to be particularly family-friendly with the fireworks going off at 10 pm to allow the younger viewers to enjoy the show.
There was some live music through out the night and overall very friendly and happy atmosphere. Things were livened up a bit with several skydivers dropping in, although to everyone's amusement one seemed to misjudge his landing finishing up in the water.
There was always going to be a concern over what the weather would be like, but with clear skies and warm temperatures the conditions were perfect.
The fireworks themselves were simply spectactular. For what seemed an eternity (in a good way) flares continued to fly into the night sky and among countless ""Ooohhh"s and "Aaahhh"s exploded into a fantastic display of sparkle and colour. Then after a great big countdown to midnight the New Year was finally welcomed with the firing of the cannon.
The event went extremely smooth without incident. The organisers and staff did a fantastic job and I am sure all are already looking forward to next year display.
